Citation Styles

What is a citation style?

  • Citation styles provide specific details about the format requirements for the sources you cite when writing a paper or producing another type of publication/manuscript

How do you know which citation style to use?

  • Most of the time you will be told which style manual to follow when you are formatting in-text citations and reference lists/bibliographies
    • If you are completing an assignment for a course, your faculty member will let you know
    • If you are submitting a manuscript for publication, consult the instructions to authors and/or your editor
