Outreach @ the Bird Library: Bird Library Services

Consult this guide for a list of outreach services provided by the Bird Health Sciences Library, helpful hints for evaluating health information resources, and some favorite web sites providing free, authoritative health information for consumers.

OUTREACH ASSISTANCE

As a Resource Library within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), Bird Health Sciences Library staff members provide a variety of services to individuals and groups throughout Oklahoma including:

  • Exhibits at health fairs and other health oriented events
  • Presentations for health consumers, students, health professionals, librarians, parents, etc.
  • Customized classes focused on finding and evaluating health information, with particular emphasis on resources from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Assistance with the identification of funding opportunities from the NN/LM or NLM and the preparation of proposals

REFERENCE ASSISTANCE

The Bird Health Sciences Library is open to the public and we are happy to help with your health information needs.

Reference librarians are available in person, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Service Desk located on the Bird Library's third floor.

CHECKING OUT MATERIALS

  • Courtesy Cards - Oklahoma residents with a valid Oklahoma driver’s license will be issued a courtesy card and may borrow up to three items at a time
  • Circulation Periods - Books may be checked out for two weeks and non-print media items for one week (print journals do not circulate)
  • Electronic Resources - Databases, ebooks, ejournals, and other online content are available to all library visitors

OTHER LIBRARY SERVICES

Printing/Photocopying

  • Copy cards sold at 3rd floor Service Desk; blank cards are $0.50 and value can be added to the card as needed
  • Printing from computers - $0.05/page
  • Photocopying print materials -$0.10/page

 

Document Delivery (Materials owned by Bird Library, copied by library staff)

  • $0.15/page
  • Electronic ordering and delivery are available

 

Interlibrary Loan (Materials not owned by Bird Library)

  • Books and Audiovisual materials: $11.00 per item (materials must be used in the library)
  • Articles: $11.00/article
  • Electronic ordering and delivery (unless otherwise specified) are available
